This 72-second exposure was taken at Halema’uma’u Crater just before 11pm on March 18, 2008. Four hours later, there was an explosive event that enlarged the crevice to a hole (puka) in the side wall of the crater. This image was featured in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the Top Story on KGMB9 News.
